He Feigned Blindness for Years—Then Caught His Lawyer Red-Handed in One Move — Part 2 of 3

The Truth That Broke Us Both

The police cars disappeared down the clinic driveway, their sirens fading into the Swiss dusk. Emma sat beside me on a leather bench, her small hand clutching mine. She was still shaking, but her eyes were bright with relief.

"Papa Victor," she said, her voice barely above a whisper, "why did you pretend for so long?"

I sighed, staring at the floor. The weight of the years pressed down on me—every dinner where I'd fumbled for my fork, every conversation I'd pretended not to hear, every lonely night in my own home. "I had to know who was loyal," I said. "After your grandmother died, I realized that money attracts wolves. I needed to see who would stay when I was at my weakest."

Emma nodded slowly. "And you found out."

"I found out that Sterling was embezzling from me for years," I said. "But I also found out that you, my dear, are the bravest person I know."

She smiled, but there was something else in her eyes—a flicker of doubt. "Papa Victor, there's something I need to tell you."

My heart tightened. "What is it?"

She pulled a folded piece of paper from her cardigan pocket. It was worn, creased from being carried for years. "My mother gave this to me before she passed. She said to give it to you if anything ever happened."

I took the paper, my hands trembling. As I unfolded it, I saw my late son's handwriting—Emma's father, who had died when she was just a baby. The letter was short, but its words hit me like a physical blow.

"Dad, I know you never approved of my marriage. But I need you to know that Emma isn't my biological daughter. Her real father is… Sterling."

The words blurred before my eyes. I looked up at Emma, who was watching me with her heart in her throat. "You knew?" I asked.

She nodded, tears spilling down her cheeks. "I found the letter last year. I didn't know what to do. I was so scared you'd hate me."

I pulled her into my arms, holding her tight. "Hate you? My dear, you are the only family I have left."

She buried her face in my chest, sobbing. "But he's my father. The man you just had arrested."

"He's a criminal," I said firmly. "But he's not you. You are your own person, and you are the daughter of my heart."

For a long moment, we just sat there, holding each other. The clinic lights hummed softly, and outside, the world was quiet. But I knew the storm wasn't over.

Sterling would fight back. He had connections, money hidden in offshore accounts, and a team of lawyers who would do anything to free him. And now that he knew I wasn't blind, he'd stop at nothing to destroy me.

"We need to leave," I said, standing up. "Pack your things. We're going home."

Emma looked up at me, confused. "Home? But the clinic—"

"The clinic is a prison," I said. "I built it to hide from the world, but I'm done hiding. It's time to face the truth and fight for what's mine."
