She Blamed the Service Dog for Spilling Boiling Tea — Then Dad Pulled Up the Nanny Cam — Part 2 of 3

The Lies She Told to Save Herself

Amber started talking fast, her words tumbling over each other like a rockslide. "Daisy is dangerous! She's always in the way! I was just trying to move the teapot to a safer spot, and she jumped at me!"

Dad didn't answer. He just watched her, his eyes hard as flint.

I felt Daisy's body tense under my arms. She let out a low whine, her nose twitching toward the baby. My brother was quiet now, his tiny hand wrapped around Daisy's ear.

"You're choosing a dog over your own family!" Amber shouted, her voice cracking into a sob. "I've been living here for a year, and you've never trusted me! Not once!"

"Why should I?" Dad said, his voice low and steady. "You've been lying since the day you moved in."

Amber blinked. "What are you talking about?"

Dad lifted his tablet again, his fingers swiping through files. "I installed a collar cam on Daisy the day she was certified. It records everything she sees and hears."

My heart skipped. I didn't know about the collar cam. But I knew Daisy was always watching, always protecting.

"The locks on my office door," Dad said, scrolling through footage. "The missing money from my wallet. The 'accidental' fire in the kitchen last month."

Amber's face went white. "That wasn't me!"

Dad turned the tablet toward her, showing a clip of Amber slipping a key into his office lock, then later, at the kitchen stove, holding a lighter near a dish towel.

"You've been sabotaging this family for months," Dad said, "and blaming Daisy every step of the way."

Amber's mouth opened, but no sound came out. She looked at me, then at Maya, then at the baby. Her eyes were wild, cornered.

"You can't prove anything!" she said, but her voice was thin, desperate.

"I just did," Dad said. He pulled out his phone and pressed three numbers. "And now we're going to have a conversation with the police."

Amber took a step back, her designer sneakers squeaking on the wood floor. "Don't do this, Greg. Please."

But Dad's face was stone. "You tried to burn my son. You blamed my dog. You terrorized my daughters. I'm done protecting you."

I watched Amber's world collapse. She had always been the princess, the one who got everything. But now, the crown was gone.

And Daisy, my sweet, brave Daisy, rested her chin on my brother's leg, her tail wagging slowly, as if she knew the truth was finally out.
