He Faked a Coma to Catch His Greedy Stepbrother — the Medicine Tray Was the Proof — Part 2 of 3

By WixForum KitchenPublished

The Medicine Tray That Held More Than Pills

The door burst open, and uniformed police officers flooded the vault, their boots echoing off the brushed-steel walls. But Julian didn't release Bryce's wrist until the first officer snapped the handcuffs on.

“Cuff him and take him,” Julian said, his voice still calm, but there was a tremor in it now—not of fear, but of rage barely contained.

Bryce hung his head, a man broken, but his eyes still flickered with defiance. “You think this is over, little brother? You think you've won?”

Julian didn't answer. He wrapped his arm around Grace's shoulders, pulling her close, and she buried her face in his chest, sobbing with relief.

But as the officers led Bryce away, Julian's gaze fell on the medicine tray. The pills. The real heart medicine. Why had Grace been so desperate to protect it?

“Grace,” he said softly, tilting her chin up. “Why were you crying over that tray?”

She sniffled, her eyes red. “Because I saw him put something in your pills last week. I didn't know what it was, but I knew it wasn't good.”

Julian's blood ran cold. He picked up the pill bottle, examining it under the light. The pills looked normal, but he had been so focused on the deed, on the theft, that he had missed the real crime.

“He was poisoning me,” Julian whispered, the realization hitting him like a freight train. “The coma wasn't just a trap—it was self-defense.”

Grace nodded, tears streaming down her face. “I didn't want to tell you because I was scared. But I knew if you were awake, he might hurt you.”

Julian pulled her into a tight embrace, his heart pounding. “You saved my life, kid. You have no idea.”

He looked at the officers, who had paused at the door. “Wait. I need to press an additional charge. Attempted murder.”

Bryce's head snapped up, his face contorting in horror. “You can't prove that!”

Julian held up the pill bottle. “This is going to the lab. And if there's anything foreign in here, you'll be spending the rest of your life in a cell.”

But Bryce's lips curled into a sickening smile. “Go ahead. The pills are clean. I'm not that stupid.”

Julian's jaw tightened. He knew Bryce was telling the truth—he was too careful for that. But there was something else, something he was missing.

Grace tugged at his sleeve. “Julian, there's something else. In the bottom drawer of his desk. He has a safe I saw him open once.”

Julian's eyes narrowed. “Show me.”

As they walked out of the vault, Julian felt a chilling realization settle over him. The coma had been a trap for Bryce, but Bryce had been playing a deeper game. And the real betrayal was still hidden in the shadows.
