He Faked a Coma to Catch His Greedy Stepbrother — the Medicine Tray Was the Proof — Part 3 of 3

The Safe That Held a Family's Ruin

Bryce's office was a monument to his greed—leather chairs, mahogany shelves, and a view of the estate that he had always coveted. But Julian ignored the opulence. His eyes fixed on the wooden panel behind the desk, where Grace pointed.

“It's there,” she whispered.

Julian pressed the panel, and it slid open, revealing a small biometric safe. He placed his thumb on the scanner, and to his surprise, it unlocked. Bryce had been sloppy, too confident in his victory.

Inside, there was a stack of documents, yellowed with age. Julian pulled them out, his hands trembling as he read the first one. It was a medical report—dated twenty years ago.

His mother's name was on it.

Julian's breath caught. His mother had died when he was a child, and Bryce's mother had married his father soon after. He had always accepted it as fate. But this report told a different story.

“He had her medication changed,” Julian said, his voice hollow. “The doctor wrote that she was suffering from 'unexplained cardiac episodes'—but the medication she was prescribed was a known poison.”

Grace's eyes widened. “He killed her?”

Julian nodded, the weight of it crushing him. “He didn't just want the estate. He wanted everything. And he was willing to kill for it.”

He looked at the documents again, finding a second report—this one about his father, who had died a year after Julian inherited the company. “He killed them both,” Julian said, his voice breaking. “And he was trying to kill me.”

Grace wrapped her arms around him, and Julian held her, the tears finally falling. For the first time, he felt the full scope of Bryce's cruelty—a lifetime of manipulation, of poisoning, of lies.

But then he saw something else in the safe: a letter, sealed with his father's wax crest. Julian opened it with shaking hands, and as he read, his heart stopped.

“My dearest Julian,” the letter began. “If you are reading this, then I am gone, and the truth is finally in your hands. I always knew Bryce was not my son. Your mother and I adopted him as a child, but his blood was never ours. I am sorry I could not protect you from him. But I left you one last weapon: the serum that can reverse the poison he has been giving you. It is hidden in the vault, behind the third deposit box. Use it wisely. I love you, son. —Father.”

Julian looked up, his eyes blazing with a new fire. “There's a serum. He wasn't just trying to kill me—he was trying to erase my family's legacy.”

He turned to Grace, his voice steady. “We're going to find it. And then we're going to make sure Bryce never sees the light of day.”

In the vault, behind the third deposit box, they found a small vial of clear liquid. Julian held it up to the light, a new resolve settling over him.

“This ends today,” he said. “No more faking. No more hiding.”

He took the serum, the liquid burning as it went down, but the warmth that spread through him was not pain—it was strength. For the first time in months, he felt alive.

As the police drove away with Bryce, Julian stood on the steps of the estate, Grace by his side. The sun was setting, casting a golden light over the grounds his father had loved.

“We're free,” Grace whispered.

Julian squeezed her hand. “We're free,” he repeated. “And we're going to build something better. Something he can never touch.”

He looked at the horizon, the weight of the past finally lifting. His father had given him one last gift—not just the serum, but the truth. And in that truth, Julian found the courage to start again.

Some things, he realized, were worth fighting for. And family—real family—was the most precious thing of all.
