He Faked Blindness to Trap His Fiancée — But Her Cruelty to His Sister Unleashed Hell — Part 2 of 3

By WixForum KitchenPublished

Two weeks later, Marcus sat in the same walnut-paneled conference room, but this time he was in a leather wingback chair, his leg stretched out on an ottoman. Hannah sat beside him, her hand in his, her eyes bright with curiosity. Across the table, a lawyer in a charcoal suit slid a thick folder toward Marcus.

"The contents of the vault, as requested," the lawyer said, his voice dry as old parchment.

Marcus opened the folder, scanning the documents. His jaw tightened as he read the first page. Then he laughed, a low, humorless sound. "Amber thought this was a trust fund. She thought she'd be inheriting millions."

"She was wrong," the lawyer said, adjusting his glasses.

Hannah tugged Marcus's sleeve, her small fingers tapping a question on his arm. He looked down, signing back with one hand. "What is it, little one?"

She signed: "What's in the vault?"

Marcus smiled, a thin line. "A secret, sweetheart. One that's going to hurt a lot of people, but it's the truth."

The vault was empty of money. Instead, it held a series of documents that traced a decades-old fraud. Amber's father, a respected banker, had embezzled millions from a family trust — the same trust that funded Marcus's aviation company. When Marcus's father died in a plane crash, Amber saw her chance to marry into the fortune she'd helped steal.

"She wanted the key to finish the job," Marcus said, more to himself than to Hannah. "She thought the vault held the last of my father's assets. But it held proof of her father's crimes."

Hannah frowned, not fully understanding. Marcus hugged her tight. "You saved me, you know. When you stood between me and her, I knew I had to end this. For both of us."

But the story wasn't over. That evening, Marcus received a call from the police. Amber was out on bail.

"She's claiming you faked the injury to defraud her," the detective said. "She's filed a counter-suit."

Marcus hung up, a cold anger settling in his chest. He hadn't expected her to go on the offensive. He'd expected her to crumble. Instead, she was fighting back, twisting the narrative to make herself the victim.

He looked at Hannah, who was playing with her doll on the floor. She looked up, sensing his tension, and signed: "Are we in trouble?"

Marcus knelt beside her, forcing a smile. "No, sweetheart. We're going to win. Because we have the truth."

But as he said it, he realized the truth wasn't always enough. He needed a weapon. And he knew exactly where to find one.
