He Faked Blindness to Trap His Fiancée — But Her Cruelty to His Sister Unleashed Hell — Part 3 of 3

By WixForum KitchenPublished

The courtroom was a stage for Amber's final act. She stood at the plaintiff's table, dressed in a demure blue suit, her hair pulled back in a tight bun, the picture of wronged innocence. Her lawyer, a silver-haired shark, painted Marcus as a manipulative liar who had faked a disability to trap a loving woman.

"He lied about being paralyzed," the lawyer thundered, pointing at Marcus. "He lied about being blind. He used his own fiancée's compassion as a weapon."

The jury murmured. Marcus sat calmly, his hands folded. Hannah was in the front row, her eyes fixed on her brother, her lips moving in silent prayer.

When it was Marcus's turn, he took the stand. His voice was steady as he recounted the crash, the fake cast, the hidden camera. But then he paused and looked directly at Amber.

"I did lie," he admitted. "But I lied to catch a thief. A woman who, when she thought I was helpless, twisted my deaf sister's wrist and tried to steal a key to a vault she had no right to open."

Amber's face flushed. "That's not—"

"I have proof," Marcus interrupted. He nodded to his lawyer, who played the body-cam footage on a large screen. The courtroom watched in silence as Amber snarled, twisted Hannah's wrist, and raised her hand to strike. The jury's expressions shifted from skepticism to disgust.

But Marcus wasn't done. He held up a second document. "This is a forensic audit of Amber's father's accounts. The same accounts that funded her lifestyle for the past five years. The same accounts that were supposed to hold the trust money for my father's company."

Amber's lawyer objected, but the judge overruled. Marcus read the key figure aloud: "Twelve million dollars, embezzled from the Bradford family trust."

Amber's composure shattered. She stood, shaking, pointing at Marcus. "You're insane! You set me up!"

"No," Marcus said quietly. "You set yourself up the moment you hurt my sister."

The jury deliberated for less than an hour. They found Amber guilty of attempted theft, assault, and fraud. She was sentenced to five years in state prison. As the bailiff led her away, she turned back, her eyes wild.

"I loved you, Marcus!" she screamed.

Marcus met her gaze without flinching. "No. You loved my money. And you almost destroyed the only family I have left."

Hannah ran to Marcus, throwing her arms around his waist. He lifted her, hugging her tight, feeling her small heart beat against his chest.

"What happens now?" she signed.

Marcus looked out the window at the setting sun. "Now we start over," he signed back. "Together."

He set Hannah down, and they walked out of the courthouse, hand in hand. The air was crisp, the sky clear. Marcus knew that the scars of the past would take time to heal, but for the first time in months, he felt a spark of hope.

As they reached the car, Hannah tugged his sleeve and signed: "I'm proud of you."

Marcus smiled, a real smile. "And I'm proud of you, little one. You were braver than anyone."

They drove home in silence, the weight of the trial lifting with each mile. Marcus knew that the truth had set them free, but it had also cost him something precious — the illusion of love. Yet as he watched Hannah laugh in the back seat, he realized that some illusions are worth losing.

In the end, the greatest test isn't how we perform when we're strong — it's what we do when we're thought to be weak. Marcus had passed that test, and he'd found a family worth fighting for.
