The Day I Caught My Fiancée Stealing From My Sick Daughter — She Never Saw Me Stand — Part 2 of 3

The Confession That Changed Everything
Raymond's arms tightened around Ruby as Chloe-Mae's words echoed in the room. The officers paused, their hands on her shoulders, waiting. Chloe-Mae laughed, a hollow, broken sound, her mascara running in dark streaks.
“Your precious Ruby,” she sneered, her voice shaking. “She's not yours. Not by blood. I did my research, Raymond. Your first wife had an affair with her driver. I have the DNA tests tucked away in a safety deposit box.”
Raymond's face went pale, and Ruby looked up at him with confusion in her eyes. He had known Ruby was not his biological daughter—he had known since she was two, when a private investigator revealed the truth. But he had never treated her any differently. She was his daughter in every way that mattered.
“That changes nothing,” Raymond said, his voice steady despite the storm inside him. “Ruby is my daughter. You think a piece of paper can erase the years I’ve held her when she cried, the nights I read her stories, the way she says ‘Daddy’ like it’s the most precious word in the world?”
Chloe-Mae's laugh turned bitter. “You're a fool. You think you can protect her from what's coming? You're not even her real father. And now that I'm going to jail, who do you think the court will give her to? Her real father—that driver—he's a drunk who hasn't seen her in years. But he'll come sniffing around for money once he hears about your fortune.”
The officers began to pull Chloe-Mae away, but she twisted her head, her eyes locking onto Ruby.
“You little brat,” she spat. “You ruined everything. If you hadn't been there, I would have taken that tiara and been on a plane to Monaco by now. But no—you had to cry and plead and make him play the hero.”
Ruby buried her face in Raymond's chest, sobbing. Raymond's jaw tightened, and he stepped forward, blocking Chloe-Mae's view of his daughter.
“Enough,” he said, his voice low and dangerous. “You've said your piece. Now you'll rot in a cell, and I'll make sure you never get within a mile of my daughter again.”
Chloe-Mae's face twisted in fury, but the officers dragged her out, her heels scraping against the floor. The door slammed shut, and silence fell over the room. Raymond sank to his knees, pulling Ruby into his arms, his own eyes burning with unshed tears.
“Daddy,” Ruby whispered, her voice muffled against his chest. “Is it true? Am I not your real daughter?”
Raymond's heart cracked. He cupped her face in his hands, forcing her to look at him.
“Ruby, listen to me,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “Blood doesn't make a family. Love does. You are my daughter. You've been my daughter since the first time I held you, and you'll be my daughter until the day I die. That woman was lying to hurt us, and she's already gone. Do you understand?”
Ruby nodded slowly, tears still streaming down her cheeks. Raymond hugged her tightly, his mind racing. He had thought the worst was over, but Chloe-Mae's words about the driver had planted a seed of dread. He had paid the driver off years ago, but what if the man had heard about the arrest? What if he came back, demanding to see Ruby, demanding money?
Raymond pulled out his phone and called his lawyer.
“I need you to file for emergency custody of Ruby,” he said. “And I need a restraining order against Chloe-Mae, effective immediately.”
The lawyer promised to handle it, and Raymond hung up. He looked at Ruby, who was now playing with her teddy bear on the rug, oblivious to the storm around her. For a moment, he allowed himself to breathe. But then his phone buzzed with a text from an unknown number.
“I know about the safe. I want my share, or the world will know the truth.”
Raymond’s blood ran cold. He had paid off the driver years ago, but the man was back. And he was threatening to reveal the secret that could tear Ruby's world apart.
He looked at Ruby, then at the door where Chloe-Mae had been dragged away. This wasn't over. It was just beginning.
