The Stroke Was Fake, But My Fiancé's Greed Was Real — Until the Cops Came — Part 2 of 3

The Hidden Recording That Turned a Win into a War

Three hours later, the police had taken Kyle away, and the estate had returned to its usual quiet hum. But Diana knew better than to relax. She had spent five years building her pharmaceutical empire, and she had learned one thing above all else: men like Kyle never go down without a fight.

She sat in the study, a glass of scotch in her hand, watching the fire crackle. Mateo was upstairs, asleep at last, his small body curled around his favorite stuffed bear. Diana had tucked him in herself, kissing his forehead and promising him that no one would ever hurt him again.

But as she sat there, the phone rang. It was her lawyer, Martin Reeves, a man who had seen more corporate warfare than most generals.

“Diana,” he said, his voice tight. “We have a problem.”

“What kind of problem?”

“Kyle’s lawyer just filed an emergency motion. He’s claiming that the stock certificates you took from the safe — the ones he was trying to steal — are actually his. He’s saying you signed them over to him as part of your engagement agreement.”

Diana’s grip on the glass tightened. “That’s a lie.”

“I know it’s a lie,” Martin said. “But he has a document. A signed transfer of ownership, dated six months ago. And Diana…” He paused. “The signature looks like yours.”

The air left the room. Diana’s mind raced. She had never signed any such document. But she knew Kyle had access to her office, her files, even her personal safe. She had trusted him with everything — her accounts, her passwords, her life.

“He forged it,” she said, her voice steady but cold. “He must have imitated my signature. We can prove it’s a forgery.”

“We can try,” Martin said. “But it will take weeks, maybe months. And in the meantime, Kyle could get a court order to freeze your assets. He could even get custody of Mateo if he plays the grieving fiancé card.”

Diana’s heart stopped. “He wouldn’t dare.”

“He already did,” Martin said. “He’s claiming that you’re unstable, that the stroke wasn’t real but that you’re having a mental breakdown. He’s painting himself as the concerned partner who just wanted to protect the shares from your erratic behavior.”

Diana laughed — a bitter, hollow sound. “He’s a monster.”

“Yes,” Martin said. “But he’s a clever monster. And he has a lawyer who’s very good at making lies sound like truth.”

Diana set down the glass and stood, pacing the room. She thought of Mateo, asleep upstairs, his face peaceful for the first time in days. She thought of the company she had built from nothing, the millions of dollars she had earned through sheer grit and determination. And she thought of Kyle — the man she had loved, the man she had planned to marry, the man who had turned out to be nothing but a parasite.

“I need to see him,” she said.

“Who?”

“Kyle. I need to look him in the eye and ask him why.”

Martin was silent for a long moment. “Diana, that’s a terrible idea. He’s dangerous.”

“No,” Diana said, her voice hardening. “He’s predictable. And I have a plan.”
