The Poolside Confession That Exposed the Truth About Marcus and Sean — Part 2 of 3

By WixForum KitchenPublished

His Voice Dropped, and I Knew the Joke Was Over

The party wound down as the sun dipped lower, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. The others drifted inside, grabbing snacks and turning on music, but I stayed by the pool, watching Marcus.

He was lingering too, pretending to help clean up, but I knew better. He was waiting for everyone to leave.

Finally, it was just the two of us. The water lapped gently against the tiles, and the only sound was the soft hum of the filter. Marcus sat down on the edge of the pool, his shoulders slumped.

"Alright," I said, sitting across from him. "Spill it."

He looked at me, and for a moment, I saw a vulnerability I had never seen before. "You promise you won't tell anyone?"

"I promise," I said, my heart starting to race.

He took a deep breath. "It's not about Sean. It's about her brother."

"Her brother?" I repeated, confused. "What about him?"

"He's been sending me messages," Marcus said, pulling out his phone. "Late at night. Weird stuff."

He showed me the screen, and I read the messages. They were threatening, dark, full of anger. My blood ran cold.

"Why is he sending you this?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper.

"Because I know something," Marcus said, his voice cracking. "About what happened to his sister. The real reason she left town last year."

"What are you talking about?" I demanded. "She moved for a job."

"That's what everyone thinks," he said, shaking his head. "But I saw her that night. I saw what really happened."

I felt the world tilt. "Marcus, what did you see?"

He looked me straight in the eye, and I saw the fear there. "I saw her with your brother, Jasmine. And it wasn't consensual."

The words hung in the air, heavy and horrible. My brother. My own brother. I felt sick.

"You're lying," I said, backing away. "You have to be lying."

"I wish I was," he said, his voice breaking. "But I have proof. Photos. They're hidden in my phone."

He started tapping at the screen, but his hands were shaking too hard. I grabbed the phone from him, and my eyes landed on the images.

There was my brother, his face twisted in anger, his hand gripping her arm. And there was Sean, crying, trying to pull away.

I felt a sob rise in my throat. "Why didn't you say anything?"

"Because your brother threatened me," Marcus said, his voice barely audible. "He said if I ever told anyone, he'd ruin my life. And now he's starting to make good on that promise."

I looked at the messages again, the threats, the anger. My brother was a monster, and I had never seen it.

"We have to go to the police," I said, my voice firm.

"We can't," Marcus said. "He'll deny everything. It'll be my word against his. And he's a golden boy in this town. Nobody will believe me."

"Then we make them believe," I said, my mind racing. "We show them the photos. We show them the messages. We do it together."

Marcus looked at me, a glimmer of hope in his eyes. "You'd really do that?"

"He's my brother," I said, "but that doesn't mean I have to protect him from the truth."

We sat in silence for a long moment, the weight of what we had just uncovered pressing down on us. But I knew we couldn't stay silent. Not anymore.

"Let's go," I said, standing up. "We're doing this tonight."

But as we walked toward the house, I saw a shadow in the doorway. My brother. He was standing there, his arms crossed, a cold smile on his face.

"Going somewhere?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous.

I felt my heart stop. He knew. He knew everything.

And now, we were all trapped in his web.
